Bathroom Interior Design: 30 Numbers to Check Your Space and Budget
Bathroom planning involves more than choosing tiles. Fixture projections, storage operation, surface coverage and site work all affect the result.
The 30 figures below are illustrative calculations, not national renovation averages, product quotations or minimum clearance standards. Use them to understand the method, then substitute your own measurements and quotations.
Five Example Budget Allowances
These hypothetical amounts show how to record separate budget lines. They are not market prices and should not be added to a contractor quotation if the same work is already included.
| No. | Example allowance | Illustrative amount |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Vanity and basin | ₹25,000 |
| 2 | Toilet and its specified fittings | ₹20,000 |
| 3 | Taps and shower fittings | ₹18,000 |
| 4 | Lighting and ventilation equipment | ₹7,000 |
| 5 | Total of these four allowances | ₹70,000 |
Installation, preparation, waterproofing, plumbing, tiling, delivery and taxes need to be identified separately where applicable. Replace every allowance with a site-specific price before ordering.
Five Vanity Measurements to Compare
The dimensions below describe an example, not a recommended product size.
| No. | Calculation | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| 6 | 60 cm width = 600 mm | Use one consistent measurement system |
| 7 | 48 cm depth = 480 mm | Cabinet projection belongs in the layout |
| 8 | 60 × 48 cm = 0.288 sq m | Closed furniture footprint |
| 9 | 80 cm − 60 cm = 20 cm | Extra wall width for a larger example |
| 10 | 80 × 48 cm = 0.384 sq m | Footprint of that wider example |
A footprint does not include the person standing at the basin or the space needed to open drawers. For wall-mounted furniture, unit height and finished mounting height are different measurements.
Ten Floor and Tile Calculations
Use clear internal dimensions. The examples do not establish suitable bathroom or shower sizes for every user.
| No. | Example | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | 5 ft × 7 ft floor | 35 sq ft |
| 12 | 6 ft × 8 ft floor | 48 sq ft |
| 13 | Increase from 35 to 48 sq ft | About 37.1% |
| 14 | 3 ft × 3 ft shower footprint | 9 sq ft |
| 15 | 3 ft × 4 ft shower footprint | 12 sq ft |
| 16 | 600 × 600 mm nominal tile | 0.36 sq m |
| 17 | 300 × 600 mm nominal tile | 0.18 sq m |
| 18 | Perimeter of a 5 × 7 ft room | 24 ft |
| 19 | That perimeter × 7 ft wall coverage | 168 sq ft gross wall area |
| 20 | Gross wall area plus 35 sq ft floor | 203 sq ft gross coverage |
Gross coverage is not the tile order quantity. Account for openings, actual tile dimensions, joints, cuts, layout, packaging and spare requirements with your installer.
A larger floor does not automatically produce a proportionately higher renovation cost. Fixtures and site work do not scale uniformly with area.
Five More Ways to Check Quantities
| No. | Example calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 21 | 48 sq ft floor ÷ 10.7639 | About 4.46 sq m |
| 22 | Four walls, each 2 m long | 8 m perimeter |
| 23 | 8 m perimeter × 2.1 m coverage height | 16.8 sq m gross wall area |
| 24 | Subtract an example 0.8 × 2 m doorway | 15.2 sq m before other adjustments |
| 25 | 15.2 sq m ÷ 0.36 sq m per nominal tile | About 42.2 tile areas |
The last calculation is a coverage check, not a purchase count. Your installer must plan complete tiles, cuts and packaging. Confirm how the quotation measures openings and detailed surfaces.
Five Budget Calculations
| No. | Hypothetical calculation | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 26 | ₹1,50,000 project ÷ 40 sq ft | ₹3,750 per floor sq ft |
| 27 | Same project ÷ 60 sq ft | ₹2,500 per floor sq ft |
| 28 | ₹20 rate difference × 200 sq ft | ₹4,000 difference |
| 29 | Chosen 10% reserve on ₹2,00,000 | ₹20,000 reserve |
| 30 | ₹1,20,000 quote + ₹30,000 required exclusions | ₹1,50,000 complete allocation |
The first two figures are effective whole-project rates, not tiling rates. The ₹4,000 example excludes any changes in installation, delivery or taxes. A 10% reserve is an illustration; set yours around unresolved conditions and scope.
What Should Your Bathroom Quotation Include?
| Area | Details to confirm |
|---|---|
| Removal and preparation | Dismantling, disposal, repairs and surface preparation |
| Waterproofing | Specified system, application scope and testing |
| Plumbing and electrical | Connections, drainage, installation, ventilation and access |
| Finishes | Quantities, tile specification, adhesive, grout and labour |
| Fixtures and storage | Exact models, dimensions, fittings and installation |
| Logistics and terms | Delivery, cleaning, taxes, payment milestones and changes |
Have the responsible professionals assess concealed conditions and installation requirements. Record which work is included and which items remain provisional.
